After clicking this notification, it starts immediately. This forces the application to jump to the system tray and a small button to pop up. When you’re ready to start, a window pops up with a marker in the middle, and you move this to your desired area. Jing uses a crosshair system for screen recording. The menu style is also simple and sits at the top left of the program as a drop-down menu. This is a major positive as it saves time in post-editing once you’re finished. Other programs, like ShareX, require a manual minimization before you can start with other projects that you intend to record. The software sits quietly in the background while you work. If you’re in the process of recording a video and the application stalls, you can lose your data. This doesn’t tend to have a direct effect on the output file, though. There’s no denying that Jing works very well. ![]() This means that it can interact easily with the OS. The program is constantly up-to-date with updates for the operating system. Jing comes with a few extra features as well. Every file you create is stored here for future reference. Every action is recorded in the history section. ![]() You can tell Jing to record or snap specific parts of your screen. These include text, colors, and miniature graphics. This program has extra editing tools to boot. There’s more than just a screen capture function. Still, it’s more in-depth for more advanced users. Beginners won’t struggle to complete basic captures and follow through with sharing. Further improvements could really add to its value but, for now, it is fair to say that TechSmith Capture comes in handy to anyone who needs to capture and share their desktop activity.This program comes with plenty of tools. It now provides a refurbished screen capture and recording tool with very good response time and simple usage. TechSmith Capture successfully replaces the outdated Jing, providing a present-time software utility that removes Flash support. Capture screenshots and record the screen with ease The clip is not saved locally, which might be an inconvenient to some, but you can share it via Screencast. However, there are no annotation tools available in this case. Video recording preview is also possible. Alternatively, you can send it to TechSmith Capture's queue and upload it at a later time. The snapshot can then be saved, copied, deleted or uploaded to Screencast. You can draw arrows, shapes or callouts and use the highlighter to point something out. TechSmith Capture displays a preview of the screenshot, where you can use the available annotation tools to highlight important areas. The selected area is highlighted, while the rest of the desktop is shadowed and a toolbar is displayed to let you choose whether to take a screenshot or record the desktop activity. It is advisable you hit the F1 help button to get instructions on how to perform the target selection, at least until you get used to the application. TechSmith Capture can also capture or record the entire screen. Once you hit the capture button to use the SHIFT+F11 key combination, a target symbol is displayed, allowing you to choose the region or the window to capture. A section of the GUI is hidden, namely the upload queue for sharing screenshots and recordings, as detailed in the following. The application displays a simple window with a single red and shiny button to start capturing.
